*Third Graders Learn About Sundials

In today’s complex digital world, the sundial has become a forgotten timepiece. While not as convenient as a wristwatch, people have used sundials to tell time for thousands of years.

Sundials are the most ancient and natural method of telling the time, with the oldest sundial probably being pre-historical man noticing his shadow lengthened and shortened during the day. Sundials depend on the rotation of the Earth and the third grade students in Mrs. Kertz’s science classes learned that any structure that marks the passage of the sun throughout the day can be considered a sundial.
